I am a composer, saxophone player and Artistic Director/co-founder of Misfits Music. My first experiences as a composer were through being Highly Commended in the BBC Inspire Young Composer Award in 2011 and 2012 and being a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain's composer section in 2010-11 which was led by Anna Meredith and Larry Goves.
My music has since been performed throughout the UK and Netherlands as well as in Croatia, France, Turkey and South Africa. I am fortunate to be part of Making Music, Sound and Music and PRS Foundation's Adopt a Composer Scheme, through which am writing a new piece for the Edge Chamber Choir in Ludow. My music has been performed at many concerts and festivals including Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2019, where my piece "There was a precipice..." was played by harpist Michela Amici's trio.
I graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire with the Bachelor of Music Course Prize in 2015 after studying with Joe Cutler, Sean Clancy and Howard Skempton (composition) and Naomi Sullivan (classical saxophone).
I graduated with a masters in composition at The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (Netherlands) in 2018 where I studied with Guus Janssen, Martijn Padding, Rozalie Hirs and Jan van de Putte. My studies were supported by a Leverhulme Trust Study Abroad Studentship from 2017 to 2018. I have been interested in the subject of musical expectations, and explored ideas related to this in my master research thesis supervised by Yannis Kyriakides and Samuel Vriezen.
I've been lucky enough to collaborate with a huge number of talented musicians and artists including violist Timothy Ridout, pianist John Reid, Puppet Designer/Maker Catrin Wright, saxophonist Naomi Sullivan, The Schubert Ensemble, The Berkeley Ensemble, Kluster5, Omega Impact, Dutch National Opera (DNO) and Residentie Orkest, as well as conductors Edwin Roxburgh, Richard Baker and Gerry Cornelius.
I took part in the annual Young Composers' Meeting in Apeldoorn (NL) in 2015 with Orkest de Ereprijs, a course for composers and choreographers "Notes, Steps, Timelines, Collaborations" run by Rambert Dance Company and the Royal Philharmonic Society, and a collaborative arts project in Izmir, Turkey as part of an Erasmus+ scheme. I have previously been a London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) Soundhub Associate member where I performed my work at LSO St. Luke's in 2017.
I have also played piano/keyboards and saxophones with ambient glitch trio: SQUEE!, and tin whistle. As a saxophonist I have played with Mirage Saxophone Quartet, Syzygy Quartet, The Skemptons and various ad hoc contemporary music ensembles. I currently co-run Misfits Music, a registered charity that aims to bring people together through group music making opportunities.
